The Minister of Defense Leon Panetta that he will visit Egypt this week for talks with Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and Prime Minister Dr. Essam Sharaf to emphasize the security relationship.
This came in statements to Panetta on board the plane carrying him to tour the region and which also meet with leaders in Israel and Palestine, in addition to visiting NATO headquarters in Brussels this week to emphasize also on the security of the U.S. Department of Defense.
Panetta said he would discuss with officials in Egypt Topics include the efforts of the Council of the armed forces to oversee the transition of the credibility and transparency, and strong commitment to long-term defense relationship, and commitment to the continued help of the Egyptian armed forces.
He added: "I want to thank the Field Marshal Tantawi for his quick assistance when requested to do so during the month of September to contain the situation when the Israeli embassy was besieged."
The U.S. Secretary of Defense in Egypt that he will discuss the way forward in the electoral process so that it can move Egypt towards the formation of a civilian government represents the will of the people and represent the desires and hopes.
