Defense minister warned the U.S. to Leon Panetta that Israel has become increasingly isolated in the Middle East and said the U.S. security commitments should enable Israel to take "risks for peace"

Panetta said he will emphasize to the Israeli and Palestinian parties that it is important to begin the negotiations to reach a settlement rather than setting conditions or to seek other means to resolve the dispute between them, in reference to the Palestinian orientation of the United Nations for membership of the international organization.
He added that "it is very clear in this dramatic time in the Middle East, and under a lot of changes, it is not good for Israel to become more isolated, but this is what actually happened."
He pointed out that "it is important to reaffirm once again the strong security relationship with the United States and Israel, to emphasize that we will protect qualitative military edge for Israel."
Panetta and wondered whether it was sufficient to maintain Israel's military superiority and at the same time isolating itself diplomatically at the same time stressing that "true security can only be achieved strong diplomatic efforts, with strong efforts to show military force."
And before the American secretary said, "It is the Israelis as a risk for peace, we will be able to provide the security that they need to ensure there is appropriate opportunity to negotiate" with the Palestinians.
